We try very hard to make onboarding with us as easy as possible however, inevitably, by nature of the services we provide, we do have to carry out checks and balances so we try to make the process as streamlined as possible.

To come aboard HMS TaxGem, our process broadly looks like this;
Step 1

You may have made contact with us via hello@taxgem.co.uk, our waitlist or given us a good old fashioned call on 01772 971071.

You may have been referred to us by an existing client, not bragging but this happens a lot.

Step 2

We’ll have a chat (on a call or in a meeting), get to you know you and establish your accountancy requirements.

Step 3

Post call or meeting, we’ll produce a proposal outlining the services you require and the associated fees. This will be accompanied by a Letter of Engagement which will cover our T&Cs. This will be sent out for electronic signature so no printing and signing to worry about.

Step 4

Once the Letter of Engagement is signed, we’ll follow up with the other bits we need from you – again, sent for electronic completion and signature for ease.

  • Client information form – so we have all the info we need to act for you
  • Form of Authority – so that we can use your personal data to carry out our function as your accountants
  • Request for ID – so that we conform with the rules and regulations related to money laundering.
  • Self Assessment questionnaire if you’re a sole trader.
Step 5

After all of the above is complete, you’ll get a call from us to take you through the next steps which largely relate to;

  • us obtaining professional clearance from your previous advisor if you’re moving to us from another accountant. We’ll do all this so you don’t have to! All we’ll need from you is their details.
  • us obtaining HMRC authorisation to act for you with regards to the relevant taxes, again, we do this and we’ll let you know exactly what we need from you.
Step 6

If we’ve requested professional clearance from your previous advisor, we’ll need this before we can get stuck into your accounts so once we’ve received it and reviewed it, we’ll be ready to take over and push you forward with our skills and advice! If we don’t require professional clearance (perhaps you’re a sole trader or a new business and haven’t had an accountant before) then we’ll be ready to assist you once the onboarding is complete and HMRC authorisations are in the bag!
